John has been in the real estate industry since 1986 and began his real estate career in Richmond, VA, at Bowers, Nelms & Fonville. After achieving great success and accomplishment in the industry, he became a managing broker in 1989. For the past 30 years John has served several communities including Virginia Beach, Virginian Eastern Shore, Williamsburg, and Richmond Metro areas. He holds numerous professional designations, including Accredited Buyer’s Representative, Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager, Certified Residential Specialist, and Graduate, Realtors Institute. Powell is active in numerous Realtors associations and is a member of the National Association of Realtors’ board of directors. He has held many positions including past president of the Virginia Association of Realtors, Southside Virginia Association of Realtors and the Central Virginia Regional Multiple Listing Service. He was recognized by the Virginia Association of Realtors as Realtor of the Year in 2011 and by the Richmond Association of Realtors as Realtor of the Year in 2009. He has been appointed to numerous housing-related task forces by former Virginia governors Tim Kane and Bob McDonnell.
