BRANDERMILL

BRANDERMILL

Brandermill is one of the most unique neighborhoods in Chesterfield County with over 13,000 people residing here. Residents enjoy being nestled in a sea of trees, taking walks on invigorating nature trails, and basking on the lake. Brandermill is uniquely designed around the Swift Creek Reservoir, giving residents a sense of privacy and security. Located just 18 miles away from downtown Richmond, Brandermill rests in northwest Chesterfield County, between Hull Street Road (Route 360) and the Powhite Parkway along Old Hundred Road.

Brandermill is deeply rooted in Chesterfield County with its first residents moving here in 1974. Beginning in the 1970s, East West Partners started developing the community of Brandermill and they moved away from the traditional development practices of the era. This made Brandermill Richmond’s first true “planned community.” Homes were grouped by price, type, style. Strict guidelines were put into place governing the materials, paint color and roof types in order to create similarity within each “mini” neighborhood. This was the first time it had been seen in Richmond back in the 1970s, making it truly unique for its time. With the development of Brandermill came many changes to Richmond and the Chesterfield area. It necessitated the extension of Powhite Parkway, and opened up development along Hull Street.

SCHOOLS

The Brandermill Community is served by the highest quality of education from the Chesterfield County Schools. Students residing in Brandermill attend either Swift Creek Elementary or Clover Hill Elementary, Swift Creek Middle School or Tomahawk Middle School, and Clover Hill High School. Clover Hill High School was named one of America’s Best High Schools for the third year in a row by Newsweek Magazine. It is in the top 4 percent of all high schools in the nation according to MSNBC’s Challenge Index. Clover Hill High School is home to the Mathematics and Science speciality center where they partner with Virginia Commonwealth University and John Tyler Community College, offering a total of 13 dual enrollment courses.
