Where to watch fireworks in Richmond, VA

Your 2026 Fourth of July Guide

Richmond doesn’t do anything half way, and celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States this 4th of July is no exception. Between the James River, the parks, the rooftops, and years of history to reflect on, RVA gives you lots of options. The hardest part? Deciding what kind of Fourth you want.

Whether you’re a blanket-and-lawn traditionalist or someone who wants to watch fireworks reflect off the James from a raft, there’s a version of this day that’s exactly yours. Here’s where to find it.

TLDR: Best Places to Watch Fireworks in Richmond, VA in 2026

If you’re looking for a fast answer, here are the top spots:

  • Dogwood Dell: Richmond’s longest-running free fireworks show. July 4, free.
  • Libby Hill Park/Chimborazo Park: Hilltop views over the city. Free, no ticket needed.
  • CarMax Park (Flying Squirrels):  Star Spangled Squirrels game plus one of RVA’s biggest fireworks displays. July 4, ticketed.

Keep reading for the full breakdown.

For the Traditionalist

I have a designated blanket spot and I’m not sharing it.

Some things don’t need to be reinvented. Dogwood Dell has been Richmond’s anchor Fourth of July event for decades. Blankets on the hill, the Richmond Concert Band, and a howitzer cannon firing the 1812 Overture. It’s free and fills up early, so pack a picnic and claim your spot.

If you want the same energy with a little more elbow room, the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds offers live music, free admission, and fireworks at dark.

July 4 | Both free

For the Social Butterfly

I need a view, a drink, and good lighting.

The rooftops are calling. Q Rooftop at Quirk puts you above downtown with a full bar and a front-row seat to the Richmond skyline. Harry’s at The Hoff gives you three levels and direct sightlines to CarMax Park. The Graduate boasts sixteen floors of Fan panorama. It’s a little lower key, but has a great view.

All three will fill up. Reserve ahead.

For the Low-Key Local

I’ll be somewhere you haven’t thought of.

Chimborazo Park sits on a hill above the East End with sweeping views and a fraction of the Libby Hill crowd. Pump House Park is tucked along the river. It’s quiet, underused, and worth the detour.

If you want a little more going on, Rocketts Red Glare runs July 3–4 at Rocketts Landing with beach volleyball, food trucks, and the James River as your backdrop.

July 3–4 | Free

For the History Buff

I’m celebrating 250 years of history.

This year is a notable one to reflect on the history of our country. America’s 250th is reason enough to go beyond the fireworks.

At Historic St. John’s Church, the Liberty or Death reenactment brings Patrick Henry’s speech back to the room where it happened. Over at the Virginia State Capitol, VA250 Independence Day features pop-up museums, speakers, and a drone light show finale over the building. And if you’re willing to make the drive, Colonial Williamsburg’s America Made In Virginia event — Ken Burns, Judy Collins’ farewell tour kickoff, fireworks and drones over the Governor’s Palace — is the kind of night you’ll talk about for a while.

July 4 | St. John’s $15 | Capitol & Williamsburg free

For Craft Beverages

I’m celebrating with something local on tap.

Hardywood Richmond goes all day with live bands, limited releases, and a lawn that will absolutely be full. Isley Brewing opens free from noon with the CarMax Park fireworks visible from the patio. And Buskey Cider in Scott’s Addition is throwing their Red, White & Blue CIDERbration.

July 4 | Most free, some ticketed

For the Outdoorsy

I want to watch fireworks from the water.

RVA Paddlesports runs their annual July 4th float every year. Raft out to a secluded island on the James, have dinner, and watch fireworks reflect off the water. It sells out every year without fail. If you’re reading this and haven’t booked, buy your tickets now before they’re gone.

July 4 | Ticketed | Books fast

For the Family

I want something everyone can enjoy.

A Henrico Fourth at Crump Park in Glen Allen is one of the region’s most thoughtfully designed July 4th events featuring Richmond Symphony, a laser light finale, free parking, and a sensory-friendly experience by design. It’s been expanded this year for America’s 250th.

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden offers free admission all day: 50 acres, a treehouse, and a splash pad. No fireworks, but pair it with an evening show and you’ve got a full day with almost no effort.

July 4 | Free

For a Whole Day Adventure

Why have a moment when you can have an event?

The Flying Squirrels’ Star Spangled Squirrels game runs all day and closes with one of RVA’s biggest fireworks displays. Kings Dominion does a full day of rides with fireworks at dark. Busch Gardens is worth the drive if you want to make a weekend out of it in Williamsburg.

July 4 | Separate admissions | Book ahead
